Helmke: We Lose…But We Win Anyway!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 2:55 pm

Remember the scene in the Adam Sandler vehicle Big Daddy where the little orphan kid is playing cards with Rob Schneider and says “I WIN!!!!” on each hand, no matter what cards are dealt? Kinda reminds me of the reaction we all knew the Bradybots would have.

“For years, the gun lobby has used fear of government gun confiscation to thwart efforts to pass sensible gun laws, arguing that even modest gun laws will lead down the path to a complete ban on gun ownership.

Well yeah, because even in extremely restrictive states like MD, you guys have kept pushing for more and more restrictions.

Now that the Court has struck down the District’s ban on handguns, while making it clear that the Constitution allows for reasonable restrictions on access to dangerous weapons, this ‘slippery slope’ argument is gone.

I love it…so we lose the argument and the Court says you can’t have blanket prohibitions…which is a victory! You can’t use a key, devastating argument against our confiscation agenda because we can’t confiscate your guns by order of the high court! Geeze, that’s compelling.

“The Court also rejected the absolutist misreading of the Second Amendment that some use to argue ‘any gun, any time for anyone,’

They probably rejected that argument because no one, anywhere, at anytime, has EVER presented such an argument in the first place. Duh. I hereby offer Paul Helmke a dinner at Georgia Browns on me if he can show me any politician, lobbyist, gun blogger, or the like who’s argued that we think the 2A means any gun, any time, for anyone.

Basically what he’s saying is we know we’ve lost the individual rights battle, but we can play defense on “reasonable” gun laws and chip away at your rights enough to make them meaningless. Fortunately I doubt that represents a convincing strategy for getting big money donors to sign up. Expert dark days ahead at their offices.

  1. Piss Pants Paul says:

After the Heller ruling, as before, approximately 80 Americans will continue to die from guns every day.

Meaning…eliminating the ban doesn’t affect anything?

  2. So where do you think the “arbitrary and capricious” language will take us in Maryland as far as the concealed carry goes???

  3. Wow. I nominate Paul King of the Straw Man Fallacy.

If that’s the argument he hears us presenting, no wonder he thinks his arguments are “common sense”.
