Permit Update (A Good One)

Filed under: Uncategorized — Administrator @ 2:43 pm

Well, my goodness!

I was opening today’s mail and lo and behold, a letter from the MSP; inside was an unrestricted (except where firearms are prohibited, as in airports, courthouses, etc) MD carry permit. I guess the letter about being a state’s witness in a shooting case did the trick. So…we don’t have a chance to see how this would have played out in front of the review board or in a courtroom.

Yet.

The permit expires 1/31/09. So it’s only good for a little more than a year. I presume I’ll have a fight on my hands once again in about 9 months (the letter says submit the renewal at least 90 days prior to expiration).

But for the next few months, when I’m out there pushing a broom around an alley or boarding up a crack house, I’ll have an option besides hand to hand combat if I get cornered by four or five crack dealers with guns, knives, and baseball bats. It goes without saying I hope my pistol never leaves the holster, but much like a seatbelt and a fire extinguisher, it’s far better to have it without needing it than to need it and not have it at the ready.

Stay tuned, as this issue will rear its ugly head in about 9 months I have a feeling.

  4. Congrats, Here’s to hoping you never need it….but I think you can rest easier knowing that you have the option of more than stern words and a withering glance (thinking of the brick thrower).

  5. That’s awesome, that they finally saw reason. I hope, of course, that you never have need to use it. It’s still a shame that the law-abiding citizens in this state have to go through such utter crap to gain the ability to not die at the hands of a criminal.

  11. Heh, no kidding. I’m surprised he hasn’t blogged about how we’re allllllll gonna diiiiiiieeeee!!!!

After all…people who want to go shooting the place up always have to wait for permits to carry first. Duh.

  12. Fantastic news. It’s too bad you had to go through the grinder to exercise your fundamental rights.

  13. Congrats.

Again, may you never need it.

Once HB2 is passed, we will all be able to protect ourselves.

  14. Is it me, or is the amount of time it’s taken you to get this thing significantly longer than the amount of time this permit is valid for? It feels that way, at least.

  15. Oh Great, now you are going to play Rambo and walk “point” through the neighborhood shooting anyone that gives you a dirty look….

Just kidding, Seriously, congratulations and I hope you never need it.

    BTW, be careful out there!

  16. So now you’re what, 22x, 3x 48x (or whatever the popular number is today) more likely to shoot yourself or member of your family than any criminal.

Yeah right. And if you believe that, I have a lease for Condo’s on the moon at a nice rate.

May you never have to use it.

  19. It does feel like it’s taken a long time to get this resolved…because it has. I turned in my old permit to the MSP back in June. It took a little over six months to get this resolved. The bad guys were kind enough to not try to kill me in the meantime.

Around Sept of this year I’ll have to apply for the renewal; they’ll probably give me all kinds of hell. I’ll have to document more threats probably.

Oh well, I’m off to go shoot some helpless minorities and blow up a few churches and school buildings, and then when I’m done with that I’m going to worship Satan for a while and then club some baby seals with the butt of my Glock. When I’m done with that I’m going to rob a bank and have a really nasty road rage incident wherein I plug some poor hapless sap who had the nerve to get a parking spot at the mall before I did. I’ll probably finish the day with somebody robbing me and them shooting me before I have a chance to shoot them, since guns aren’t really any good for protecting yourself from felons…which is why cops don’t bother carrying them on the job.

Since…after all, that’s what everybody with a CCW permit does.

  20. Congratulations…tenacity paid off! Hopefully you won’t need to defend yourself. If so, MSP will likely declare “you went looking for it.”

  21. Congratulations to you on this, and let me jump into the crowd hoping you will never actually have to use it. But, of course, we always hope we should never have cause to use our airbags, or our life insurance, or the rest of the preventative items we have surrounding our lives.

Maybe this instance will provide leverage to the rest of the MD population looking to protectively arm themselves… I doubt it, but at least there is a single chink in the wall now.

  22. You da man, PGP!

    Comment by Rustmeister — January 16, 2008 @ 10:34 am

  23. Yup, a big chink–if you want a permit in MD, all you have to do is have drug dealers threaten to kill you and then be a witness in an attempted murder case. :)

  24. […] … the people in Maryland who have unrestricted carry licenses.   Congratulations are in order to the other Sebastian for winning his fight.  Even in Philadelphia, he would have had an unrestricted license from the beginning.  If you’re thinking about urban renewal, it’s a good idea to try it in a state with shall-issue licensing. 25. Be very careful now. You have backed them down. They will want revenge. Do not stop anywhere for any cop where there are no other witnesses.

  30. Personally, I think this: If you’re thinking about urban renewal, it’s a good idea to try it in a state with shall-issue licensing. should be some kind of major slogan or something, somewhere, somehow.

  34. Hallelujah! Good job, man. I still haven’t trained myself to carry 24/7, and I still haven’t worked up the nerve to keep a round in the chamber of my SAs while carrying, but I’m getting there. You, I’m sure, will be better prepared than me. Again, congrats, man!

  35. […] Pro Gun Progressive got one, and it only took seven months of waiting, some non-standard photos, a big wad of cash (fully non-refundable) a few times being grilled by our public servants, several affidavits from neighborhood police, more than one documented examples of threats and witness intimidation, a fingerprint card, the serial number for the Glock he plans to carry, and a few spent shell casings from the same Glock for our useless and expensive ballistics “fingerprinting” scheme, […]
