Political Theatre

I’d argue that TOS is right on the money: even if we’re not assured of victory thanks to election year shenanigans, it’s still essential that we push the cause forward and call our enemies onto the carpet. Having the bill on the floor makes people go on record, and also it underscores just how weak the gun controllers are, as they have to avoid their issue coming up for a vote lest Obama have to publicly take an unpopular stand or acquiesce (both bad options).

I also agree with Bitter that this puts right-thinking Democrats like Tester and Casey (who I’ve stuck up for) in a terrible spot. They’ve gotta toe the party line and pull for Obama, which unfortunately for them means having to lie about how bad Obama is on guns.

  1. Actually, I don’t think they have to lie about Obama’s record. I outlined other options for Blue Dogs, highlighting the actions of a few other members of the coalition who haven’t been covering up the facts.

In fact, I would go so far to say that those who are lying about Obama’s past record should face consequences for those statements.

  2. This is probably a stupid question, but who are you referring to by “TOS”?

  3. TOS = The Other Sebastian, as in Snowflakes in Hell. He posts as Sebastian as well…I refer to him that way so as not to confuse folks who read both our blogs.
