As per usual, they’re really missing the point. TOS has a nice post analyzing the crime trends in PA and their relation to race and guns. The short version–most of Pennsyltucky has little problem behaving itself. There’s a certain subset of the community in one particular city skewing violence figures, and the VPC uses that data point in criminally misleading fashion; another mendacious episode in its undying jihad on lawful firearms culture. Once again we see gun control for what it is–the fairy tale belief that young urban men will stop offing each other if everyone, including the law abiding folk who aren’t young urban men, is disarmed forcibly.
Compare this map to this one. Pretty clearly the urban violence issue has components that are sometimes taboo (race, culture, class, education, socioeconomic conditions and destitution, destruction of family structure, etc), but most certainly have nothing to do with the presences of inanimate objects. Taking away freedom from everyone to stop misdeeds by a few: fascist mission creep. Period. That said mission creep’s normative advocates tend to call themselves liberals is irrelevant to the statist nature of their mission (which is a fancy way of saying it’s funny that many liberals are so pro gun control, when there’s nothing liberal at all about hoplophobia).
