…just when I was ready to give Kevin Drum a little credit, he lurches gleefully into the stereotyping claptrap common to many on our side of the fence, by assuming that a guy who questions Rudy and Mitt’s jonny-come-lately faux-conversions on gun rights must be a “gun nut”. Sadly, many in his peanut gallery follow suit, sounding just as bigoted and prejudiced as anybody you’ll find on the right. Attention liberals, progressives, libertarians, greens, and everybody else who’s not in the GOP: if you want to carry the torch for open mindedness against the forces of the religious right and their ilk, then much like Maverick and Goose you need to be doing it cleaner and better than the other guy.

The sooner people get over the idea that it’s ok to lob negative generalizations about 80mil+ Americans (a number that large is guaranteed to be a diverse lot), the better off we’ll all be. Great way to lose if you’re a Democrat: alienate the 1/3rd of your party that identifies itself as gun-owning.
