Even if there were something to the “Florida gun permits given to felons story“…wouldn’t that imply that there’s something wrong with Florida’s bureaucracy and not concealed carry itself?
Yeah, it sure would. Of course, it turns out this story is all sizzle and not a bite of steak (no, they were NOT convicted felons after all), but that’s almost beside the point, really.
In any event, that doesn’t stop the anti-gun New York Times from trying to spin this into a sign that CCW rights spell doom and gloom and blood running in the streets. Or, as they put it, a sign that we have a “dangerously macho” thing going on down there (and everywhere else CCW rights are granted). I never tire of how baseless the “guns = machismo” argument is; much like a racist or bigoted comment, it’s a sure fire sign the NYT already knows they’ve lost the CCW argument, as 40+ states allow people to carry.
In any event, given that Florida yanked ONE of the 410,000 permits the NYT is bemoaning last year for misbehavior of any kind, it seems pretty clear the people with the permits aren’t the people we need be worrying about.
